villagevoice.com SUNDAY, JULY 22 Chromatics+JDH & Dave P: Chromatics may play synth-pop, but they always make sure to place their own expressionist stamp on it, whether focusing on darker tones or releasing an entire version of one of their albums completely without drums, as they did with this year’s Kill for Love . In a live set-ting, though, the band manages an unusual balance between playing a concert and hosting a dance floor, as frontwoman Ruth Radelet stoically assumes center stage while everything around her spins out of control. It makes for a unique chaos. GROW 8 p.m., $18-$20. Music Hall of Williamsburg, 66 N. 6th St., Brooklyn, 718-486-5400, musichallofwilliamsburg.com. Iceage+Dirty Beaches+Martial Canterel: If you haven’t dug out this Danish hardcore band’s New Brigade since it came out here last year in a flurry of Internet hype, do yourself the favor now: Iceage still sound like a slap in the face, one only likely to increase in strength at this sure-to-be-brief live gig. WOOD 8 p.m., $12-$14. Le Poisson Rouge, 158 Bleecker St., New York, 212-796-0741, lepoissonrouge.com. Izod Center, 50 Route 120, East Rutherford, 201-935-3900. The Gaslight Anthem: Maybe it’s the Jersey roots, frontman Brian Fallon’s husky croon, or the no-holds-barred manner in which they attack their instruments, but folk-punks Gaslight Anthem have both found a rare sweet spot between the sounds of Springsteen and late-era Clash and have rightly reaped a sizable fanbase in the six short years since they formed. Today, the group is releasing its fourth studio LP, Handwritten , and judging from the radio response to its catchy lead single “’45,’” it could be their biggest yet. GROW 8 p.m., $29. Chicha Libre: In addition to being a popular alcoholic bever-age, “chicha” also signifies the psychedelic style of cumbia fermented in Peru’s Amazonian rainforests during the ‘70s. This terrific Brooklyn combo features One Ring Zero accordion wizard Josh Camp and members of Las Rubias del Norte. They open a portal to Peru here nearly every Monday and have only gotten weirder and more wonderfully danceable over the years. GEHR. 9:30 p.m., $10.
